ʻike (knowledge) & Mo’olelo (story)

Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole Piʻikoi was born March 26, 1871 in Hoʻai village, Kauaʻi to Esther Kinoʻiki Kekaulike and David Kahalepouli Piʻikoi. He was adopted by his aunt, Queen Kapi’olani. Prince Kūhiō was the first Native Hawaiian and only member of Congress born as royalty. He is known for establishing the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920 designed to put land back into the stewardship of Native Hawaiians. March 26th is a State of Hawaiʻi holiday in honor of Prince Kūhiō.
